Arrangements for Academic Guidance
Academic guidance plays a vital role in the success of the students during the under graduate and graduate studies at the university. Through academic guidance, students always receive assistance from their advisors or mentors, concerning their courses and academic studies, as well as their personal issues. Simply, academic guidance enables the students at the university to find their ways easily in academic and personal difficulties during their study. From the very beginning of its establishment, Karabuk University has given utmost importance to a proper academic guidance of its students to help them during their study, so that it has put into force a directive of student academic guidance to help its students. Some principles of the directive of student academic guidance are summarized as follows:
-
At Karabuk University, an ‘Academic Advisor’ is assigned to every freshman by the related department to guide them throughout their study.
-
The Academic advisor monitors the student and his/her academic study during his/her period of study. The students enrol on their courses with the guidance of both the department of Student Affairs and the advisors. Advisors also help students to select courses; they also help students during the add-drop period at the outset of each new semester if the students have failures in the previous year.
-
Just after the completion of the registration process, each freshman receives a guidebook with necessary and useful information about the university, programme and courses, as well as about other subjects related to their academic and personal life.
-
Academic advisors also have a scheduled contact/office hours with students to guide them properly during the semester announced at the departments
-
Since a year of English Preparatory class is compulsory nearly for every department at Karabuk University, School of Foreign Languages organizes a welcome Session and Orientation weeks to inform the new students of the importance of foreign language and English, university life, social, cultural and sports facilities, health services, rules and regulations and other academic issues.
-
For the Erasmus programme, all faculties/programmes and schools appointed an Erasmus-ECTS academic coordinator, who is not only the contact person for the incoming and outgoing students on all academic matters, but he also guides them properly in their selection of the academic courses, their credits and other issues linked to Erasmus Exchange programme.
